WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (AP) -- Richard Petty Motorsports has signed AJ Allmendinger to a multi-year contract extension.

Allmendinger says he talked to several teams before deciding to stay put because he likes the potential he sees in his No. 43 team and doesn't want to start over with another team.

The 28-year-old Allmendinger, who joined RPM late in the 2008 season and is in his fourth full season at the Cup level, also says he likes the relationship the team has developed with Ford.

Allmendinger is winless thus far in his Sprint Cup career.

Marcos Ambrose has been rumored to be headed to RPM. Petty just smiled Friday during the press conference at Watkins Glen International and said future announcements would be coming.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The autograph line wound from the garage to Daytona International Speedway's famous victory lane, at least a full football field away.

One man took a vacation day from his job to drive three hours from Valdosta, Ga., to wait six more hours in line just to get NASCAR champ Jimmie Johnson to sign a photo and a shirt. A family waited nearly as long to have former Indy 500 winner Juan Pablo Montoya sign 10 miniature replicas of the No. 42 Chevy he drives in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.

"This is one of the cheapest races we can go to,'' said Fernando Zapata, 42, who brings his wife and two young children to the Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona sports car race every year.

To see their favorite NASCAR drivers.

It's enough to make sports car purists cringe, but for the Grand-Am Series - NASCAR's sports car sibling - it doesn't matter why fans are coming through the gates or watching on television. As long as they're paying attention.

A.J. Allmendinger DUI DWI Richard Petty Motorsports NASCAR Talladega Sprint Cup ToyotaNASCAR and Richard Petty Motorsports look a little more spineless today.

NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver A.J. Allmendinger was arrested for DWI early Thursday morning in Mooresville, N.C., after being pulled over and blowing a .08 on a Breathalyzer test -- the legal limit for intoxication in the state. Cited for a misdemeanor, Allmendinger will appear in court on the charge in December.

Allmendinger, though, won't be facing any music from his RPM team or NASCAR -- the same organization that will suspend crew members for racing with an illegal part.
