With rain on the schedule we headed out to the track a little early. The roads were kind of empty which was real good. There was some reports of some rain showers but they were suppose to clear up by race time. All the talk is about how much of the race we are going to get in as there is a major storm heading towards Martinsville. Hopefully it will hold up until we get the race in.

We unpacked the car and headed towards the press box to set up out laptops and then headed down to the race trailers to get some crowd shots and drop by the tweet up for a bit and meet some people we have been following on Twitter for a while.

fans lining up at the race merchandise trailers

First place we passed by was the Home Depot stage were they were interviewing Marcos Ambrose who was discussing the differences with racing in the United States and Australia.   Marcos says the biggest thing he learned in the US was that there were a million ways to cook a cheeseburger. It was a very fun interview, he is really a funny guy.

Marcos Ambrose interview

Next we went past the Sprint Experience where Miss Sprint Cup was having a contest using Twitter where the first three people that showed her the contest tweet would win something special. People were coming from all over to show her the tweet. This contest was very fun to watch as people were running up with their phone in their hands.

We took a few crowd shots of the people waiting inline to get autographs from some of the Legendary drivers. Harry Gant had a huge line and he was very good with waving to the crowd as he signed autographs. We then went up to all the merchandise haulers where as usual Dale Earnhardt Jr had the biggest line. It was very strange to see a hauler for Danica Patrick even though she isn’t racing here but it is good for NASCAR. Her trailer had a big line also which is good to see.

Then it was off to the Tweet up where we met a few people that we have been following. Sprint came by and gave away a few passes for Sprint Fanview for the race.  Kyle Busch’s fiance Samantha also dropped by and gave some fans a few Kyle Busch die-cast cars. That was cool, she is very nice and chatted with us all for a while

We went back inside to get some heat and some hot coffee as the temperature started to take its toll on us. The fans are starting to come into the track with blankets and ponchos in tow. These fans are some of the most dedicated in all of sports.

historic martinsville signWe started out a little late this morning but we finally got to the track. The drive down from South Boston took a little longer then we expected.  As we were walking to get our media credentials we passed by them starting filming NASCAR Raceday and everyone was yelling for Kyle Petty and he gave them a nice hello salute.  We settled in and got our media passes and headed for the press box. Everyone at the track was very helpful, we even got a ride from our new friend Gunner. The trucks were already on the track for practice and the sun was shining.

After finding our way to the press box we settled in for a minute and then headed down to the infield media center where the cup drivers were being interviewed. This seemed to be the place to be as the room was packed with media. We stayed for a little while and then ventured out to the garage area. We took what seemed like a million pictures as the drivers were getting out of their cars. We almost walked right into Tony Stewart as we were both a little overwhelmed with all the action in the garage area.

We started to feel some rain drops so we headed back to the infield media center as Greg Biffle was being interviewed. He talked about getting some speed up in the car and he sounded happy with the way the car is performing so far.  He also talked about how critical it is for the team to communicate to work together and how they have been so much better as of late.  Next up was Paul Menard who talked about his good relationship with his crew chief Slugger Labbe and how they have been working real good together lately.

We left the media center and went back out to get some more photos before the rain started to fall since it looked like it was coming as the sky was getting darker. They were lining up the cars for pre-qualifying inspection and the rain started to come down a little heavier. We escaped to the press box as we are waiting for the rain to stop so we can get qualifying underway. And with that the rains have canceled qualifying, we will line up based on owners points.

Premediated Wrecking

It has been over 24 hours now and I still can’t see a way NASCAR can get away without giving Carl Edwards a week or so off. I am not a fan of Brad Kesolowski at all but that really doesn’t weigh on my thoughts. If this was any two drivers I would feel the same. That is what is missing from this equation.

People are saying it’s payback for Talledega! That makes it even worse, and why did he choose now to do this. There were plenty of opportunity before this to wreck him. Carl waited until he was out of a race where it wouldn’t hurt his team. This premeditated wrecking was a long thought out plan. That is the reason why NASCAR will sit Carl down for a week.

What about the car he ruined, don’t you think Roger Penske is slightly pissed off about someone taking out his car and his sponsor who was going to have a top 5 finish. Someone has to pay for that car and that is where Carl’s prize money will go. If they strip him of his winnings from yesterday and combine that with last place money from next week that should just about cover it.

All I been hearing on Twitter is people saying Brad deserved it. I agree Brad had something coming but not at 180 mph. In the old days the stuff that brad does would have been handled off track and brad would have black eyes all the time.

I know NASCAR said they would let the drivers police themselves but there has to be a line there also, otherwise drivers would be carrying guns. I know that’s an overstatement but I wanted to show that a line has to be drawn somewhere and this is the place to do it.

People are saying a suspension is too much and it will take care of itself. I don’t think so, what if that car went into the stands and killed someone? Cousin Carl would have been arrested in the NASCAR hauler, not exactly what NASCAR wants to see happen. This is why they have to stop it right now. Don’t think for a minute that Brad is gonna let Carl get away with this. This is far from over unless NASCAR does something, and if they don’t and someone gets hurt then what.

The only way I see this coming to an end is to sit cousin Carl for a week and strip him of the prize from yesterday. I am sure some of Carl’s fans will not agree with me. I would have to say that Carl was my second favorite driver until this.

GoDaddy, Danica Patrick and NASCAR

I have to admire what GoDaddy is doing for NASCAR. I am not a fan at all of GoDaddy hosting, but I *am* a Danica Patrick fan and I’m glad she is racing in NASCAR. Her first stock car race was the Daytona ARCA race (not really NASCAR) and she was able to avoid wrecks and finish. Her first Nationwide race was last weekend in Daytona also, and she got collected up in a big wreck and was unable to finish. Today she finished, and not quite last :) She’s doing what needs to be done to become a great stock car driver, which is quite a change from the open wheel cars she is used to driving.

Love her or hate her, she is bringing new fans to stock car races, hopefully people that will become race fans now. In this economy Bob Parsons could have cut back instead of expanded his sponsorship in racing, and in doing so he is getting great press for his company AND giving the sport a boost. Some women are offended by her sexy image and commercials, some men don’t take her seriously. I think by the end of this season, she’ll be established as one of the best and the naysayers will be changing their tune.

There are male NASCAR drivers that use their looks in their commercials… Kasey Kahne comes to mind…

Go get ‘em Danica, we’ll be watching.

I often get asked about our site and what you can do here so I came up with what we like to do on the site. As you can tell by the name AwesomeWreckage.com we are a NASCAR site that likes to focus on the wrecks as long as no one gets hurt.

While we don’t sit around rooting for a wreck we appreciate them when they do happen and we try to capture the moment for all to enjoy. Sometimes this is on video and sometimes its in pictures. You can even put up your pictures in our NASCAR picture Gallery. We also encourage you to join our Racing Forum where you can meet other racing fans.

You can follow me on Twitter and keep up with all the race fans there as well. This site is made for the fans to enjoy. We have done a few racing podcast where we talk about everything. We don’t do it often enough but it’s fun and you will enjoy it. If you have skype you can even be on it if you wish.

As you can see we want the site to become interactive with race fans. You can join us over on Facebook also. From time to time we have contest and giveaways from some cool sponsors. That’s always fun I suggest you sign up for our newsletter and follow us on twitter so you know the instant we start a contest. I am looking forward to hearing from you but in the meantime I hope you enjoy the site as much as we like making it.

Return To Talladega

So I wonder what will happen this week, Will we have another flying NASCAR like we had last race or will it be a normal finish. Yeah like we have ever had a normal finish at a plate race lol.

Maybe this will be the week that Dale Jr will break out of his little slump. Hendricks always has good cars for the restrictor plate program.  I am going to predict that this is the week that JR will win. No I have not lost my mind and yes I usually root for Jimmie Johnson but this is a gut feeling I have. Before you go out and make a friendly wager just remember I have never picked a winner based on a gut feeling.

Who is your pick this weekend? Take a minute and leave a comment.

Joey Logano Tony Stewart Commercial
Oct 3rd, 2009 by Vinny

Click Here To Find Cool Nascar Items!

I was just sitting here thinking about the wreck last week between Joey Logano and Tony Stewart and I think it would be a good idea to do a commercial about it.

We all loved the commercial last year between the two where Tony handed over the steering wheel to Joey after he passed a few test to prove he was ready to drive the Home Depot #20. Well between Home Depot and Tony’s new sponsor Burger King they could film a commercial where Tony is telling the kid the he wasn’t kidding that its tough out there. He can go on to explain that he didn’t mean to wreck Joey and that the only reason it happened was because he was excited over the Whopper the crew gave him during the last pit stop.

It would be a win-win for both Home Depot and Burger King. What do you guys think of the idea.
